<p>Everyone encounters challenges along the way to achieving goals. Obstacles come from many directions, inside and out. Some of them are avoidable. Some we can even turn to our advantage. The first step to prepare for achieving goals, even before we set them, is learning, and relearning, ourselves.</p>
<p>You are a complex being, full of wonder and mystery. The desires that drive you cover the span of that existence, from the forefront of your thinking to impulses and patterns buried deep in your subconscious. One of the questions we ask most often as we pursue achieving goals is &#8220;How? With what?&#8221;. The answer to most of those questions can be heard within you, if you cultivate a habit of listening.</p>
<p>The country of your mind is your greatest treasure, your greatest ally in pursuit of achieving goals. Everything you have ever seen, heard, or experienced is there, even when you aren&#8217;t directly thinking about it. Imagine how many DVD&#8217;s it would take to record every second of your life, how many books to write down every thought, every feeling. That is the library of your mind.</p>
<p>All those ideas and experiences don&#8217;t sit idly on the shelf when you aren&#8217;t looking at them, either. Your mind is not like a storage closet, where you can close the door and walk away with every expectation that everything will be in the same place the next time you look inside. Return to the image of the library, and now imagine that the stories aren&#8217;t contained by the discs or books, but spill out over the shelves. Characters from one story can walk into the countryside from another story, can meet other characters, interact with them. This is going on constantly, whether we are aware of it or not. However well we know ourselves, there is always more we do not know.</p>
<p>As we set out to achieving goals, it&#8217;s important to use every resource available to us. The churning seas of the subconscious mind teem with life, energy, and power. We would be foolish to ignore such vast opportunity. It would be like working ourselves into frustration trying to tighten a screw because we were unwilling to pick up the screwdriver sitting beside us. If we never took our eyes off the problem itself, i.e. never looked away from the screw to find out what tools were available to us, we might never know that a perfect solution was just an arms reach away.</p>
<p>Using the power of our subconscious in achieving goals begins by looking inside ourselves. Take the time to rediscover who you are. Ask yourself why your goals are important to you, and don&#8217;t rush to an easy or practiced answer. In that process you may find surprising results. Your goals may change. Your methods for attaining them may change. One thing you can be certain of, however, is that you will find new reservoirs of strength, endurance, imagination, and resourcefulness.</p>
<p>A better understanding of yourself and the wonderful life within you brings you closer to achieving goals, and better able to enjoy the journey to them.</p>
